LANDSCAPE:"Landscape photographs typically capture the presence of nature but can also focus on man-made features or disturbances of landscapes"
STATEMENT OF INTENT
My chosen theme for my GCSE photography will be "Changing Landscapes" and I am going to show it by going to different places around Manchester.I will specifically be focusing on the rural areas as well as urban as I believe they will give me the contrast between different places as so it would be more interesting . I have chosen this theme as this is very big and the skills I will have to use will help me to develop my photography course.
My main chosen coursework was changing landscapes however the theme that I specifically chose to look at in this project is the urban area, I chose it because I think I would be good at taking pictures. I'm quite sure it will be making me reach my effective marks and the highest grades possible.
To show progress through out my work I hope to start researching a few images about rural area and do the 5C's on them to effectively get an idea on what I might do in the future of this project, I then plan to go out sometimes and take images which are linked somehow to any rural area whether so I would go out side and take picture of buildings rural area .I will then refine my images and develop them in any possible way to further excess my idea of my main concept "RURAL AREA" and possibly I could gain more ideas from them and plan again to go out sometime to take pictures, repeating that same cycle I could perfectly gain grades to exceed my target and show the progress.I could also preform weakness and any strengths I get, I will improve myself by reaching that task at the same time learning what I have done wrong and I would use Photoshop to change a bit and colour's and zoom in the picture to and I would try to get as much help from my teachers so I can get a better grade.
If I am going to do this project, I want to learn more about the theme of "URBAN AREA " in changing landscapes , I also intend to carry out a variety of research towards photographers. I will research and interpret a variety of artist and photographers such as "LEN GRANT" and he was a freelance photographer in 1990 in Manchester. He takes pictures of Manchester and Salford, he captured the construction of the Manchester arena and other famous landmarks. I have picked this photographer because he inspired me with his Manchester and Salford pictures and because I live in Manchester I should be able to gets some similar images.
In the end I hope to specialize and finalize the important skills I have learnt through this coursework and successfully add them on to my final gallery.
I would like to experiment a wide range of techniques on my camera but mainly the "landscape" setting which I believe has its own amazing parts and specific harmonization of the settings for example ISO 6400, White balance Cloudy , Aperture 9.6 , Manual 1/200 . I can also try to experiment any different lens as they extend and the effects they provide would be highly effective as I am looking changing in landscapes therefore I would need lens that focus on the entire landscapes.Something I would also like to achieve is by using a setting which is quite uncommon for the cameras I use but maybe I could try somehow to use it , I would like to take pictures of a waterfall or a stream by using the polarization filter as I believe this is the sort of photography that photographers are commonly doing in the 21 century.
To refine my work further I hope to put my pictures in Photoshop so I could improve on the image of the colour, the contrast, cropping and saturation. I want to explore Photoshop in more detail by using the layers, collage, patterns and cut outs to take my work in a long journey.
I see my final format being a gallery of a epic picture that I took and also the images being refined on Photoshop, and present in a manner of excellence to reach the final important grade I hope and require.

"Red flash White flash" 5C's on Glyn Davies
Context:
This image was taken by a photographer named Adam Burton who specializes in Anglesey images and landscapes as well. The image was taken in Anglesey North Wales and I believe the image was taken during recent times due to style of the photo. I believe this image was taken was to show the amazing and beautiful landscape of Anglesey and fascinating it looks. The meaning behind this image is to show the vast beauty and elevation of light house to the sea to the mountains. The image was published on Adam Burton website as also he has many more photos that link to landscapes, He is known on his website as the "One of the best UK photographers in history." , He wasn't just a photographer he was many things at the same time as well for example a tuition-er and you can book to to have tuition's with him on his website to Anglesey and many more places.
Content:
In the image I can see many things such as the light house at the top of the hill to the beach and the sea which looks fake because of how too perfect it looks, I can also see a mountain in the background while it also looks quite foggy as if it was purposely made to be blurred so you can focus on the light house more. You can see its quite cloudy as well but the sun is also setting which is reflecting on the clouds to the right however you can see contrast of the clouds to the right with being quite dark and mystifying. The image is very colorful and that thoroughly brings out the textures of the image which also contrast to urban areas which I was what I really like about nature landscapes.
Composition:
The photographer uses rule of thirds to get everything into the image, all in one by imagining the lines you can tell he used rule of thirds. He used a birds eye view I believe to catch everything into the picture from the lighthouse to also visualizing the sea on his picture to the mountains in the background. The lighting is quite soft and intriguing in a sense of manner and it kind of attracts me in a polite way instead of a heavy way which I believe is the effect of this image. My eyes were immediately drawn to the rocks in front.
Connection:
Looking at Davies' photo of his visions on the lighthouse, I really want mine to give of a slight impression, weather it be enjoyment or anguish. I want, not just the lighthouse, but as many images to give of a certain feeling to whoever might come across the picture. I will take pictures of different elements of the surroundings and try to understand the fact that I need to create an emotion within the picture
Comment:
The things that I like about the image is the sun in the background because it draws my eye straight to it as it is bright, clear and it stands out, I also like the lighthouse in the middle of the image because that is clearly what the photographer was clearly trying to focus on as it was right in the middle. What I don't like about the image is the rocks at the sides because they are just dirty and ruins the whole picture I don't think they look very nice and they are just ruining the whole picture. I can use this image to inspire me because it is similar to the pictures that I planned to take.

Photographer research
Composition - The focus point is the man on the metal work and the backdrop of the urban buildings. The strong leading lines are the man on the metal work and the backdrop of the city skyline, the effect that it has, is that you are drawn in to the building getting developed and the risks of their job. I feel like the leading line of the backdrop of the buildings in the background is to show use how built up already the city is and how it is always developing. The lighting is very bright which contrast of the dark metal work and by doing this it makes the metal work standout in the image. The lighting is soft due to the warm weather. My eye is drawn to the man on the metal work because of the way this image was taken, this was achieved by Len Grant taking this photo at eye level. The sense of scale you get from this image is how small the person is working on this massive building and how someone or something so small can create these massive structures. This image has a large depth of field due to the amount of buildings and background it covers. The foreground is the man working on the new building, the middle ground is the buildings in the back of the image, and the background is the sky.
Connection - The theme is landscapes, this is relevant to my work as I am studying the theme of landscapes through my images because I have been taking a numerous amount of photographs which capture the landscapes of rural and urban scenes. This image can link to my work as I am focusing on the buildings in urban areas and the surrounding buildings around the high rise buildings. The image has been taken at eye level as the man is on level as the camera. I feel like there is a message behind this image as I feel like Len Grant is trying to say that the city never sleeps it is constantly developing.
content:
I can see the man on top of the metal building he looks like a constructionist the man doesn't look like hes scared, he is brave and also I can see other building. The man looks like hes building a new building. The image is very new because the image is very clear and beautiful. The picture its not black and white there are other colours for example red orange and blue white brown. This image is taken in London city center. The picture has only one person on top of a metal building, The picture is a section of a building. In the background there is other building houses and stuff.
Context - I became a freelance photographer in 1990 after an unrewarding stint in sales and marketing. I had no formal creative training, just the odd workshop here and there. I’d just turned 30 and thought I would give it a go. At the beginning of the 1990s Manchester’s regeneration was kicking off and I wanted to say something about it. Who was behind it all? Who was making the decisions? So I set about photographing the architects, planners, council people, developers… the movers and shakers. That City Shapers exhibition, and the people I met because of it, kicked off my photographic career. I became the photographer of new landmark buildings in Manchester and Salford. I captured the construction of the Manchester Arena, The Bridgewater Hall, The Imperial War Museum North and The Lowry. They were published as hardback books or as exhibitions that celebrated a new era of urban renewal.

Alderly Edge
First shoot going into the countryside to capture the light and colours in autumn

The Best PictureThis is my best picture because when I was taking this picture I made sure that I held the camera steady and I focused in on the sign. I like this image because you are able to read clearly the sign and I did this in the very strong winds, taking my time and focusing my lens on the sign.

Linking paragraph
My first trip that I went to was to Alderly Edge, a place full of natural landscapes, this is where I got chance to photograph many locations including high rocks with very scenic views, rural paths and trees and the light from the September sun, as we found our way through the land it wasn't all countryside there were some structures plotted around, such as when I visited the rocks edge with a very scenic view which showed a great range of the countryside land. Alderly Edge was a very photogenic location in fact I ended up coming back with various photos.
On the other hand...
My second trip was to Manchester city centre and to Salford quays which is quite the opposite to the Alderly Edge because now we are in an urban setting, with plenty of building and architecture, some old like the Great Northern Railway’s Company’s Goods warehouse and some new like the Hilton hotel. On the day it was very hot and so the lighting came from the bright July sun, this was perfect for the urban photography as there were reflections on the glass buildings. Just like when I went to Alderly Edge I came back with many photographs, some from high up in the Hilton hotel which I was able to capture a wide range of the City centre landscape, and some from ground level where I was able to capture the unique beauty of the city centre. Overall I found this trip to be also very useful, as there was plenty of places we explored and what we did go to see around the city was nice.
Both trips were a contrast to each other giving me a wide range of images for my landscape project which will help me, In terms of the camera settings I had to adjust to my surroundings constantly and for example if I was to use the same settings in Alderly Edge to Manchester city centre and Salford the photos would come out over exposed and too bright, however if I was to use the camera settings from Manchester city centre and Salford to Alderly edge the photos would be under exposed and too dark and by this happening I would not have been able to use these in my portfolio so it was important to use the correct camera settings.
Personally I like the Manchester city centre and Salford trip better as I like to capture the urban settings and its natural beauty, however the Alderly edge trip has helped me with my camera setting skills. I would love to take more photos in areas like this.

Mock Exam Evaluation 12/12/2019
What was the project theme and what did you think of it?
The project theme that I was looking at was landscape photography. Later on I have started to do more further research and decided to focus on the theme of landscape. The reason why I chose this theme was because I thought that I could do better in my class and achieve a grade 5 or higher then I stared to look at the last year 11's that left the school and one of there caught my eyes so I thought to my self that I could do better than there work so started to work hard and take lots of pictures and Photoshop the images I have taken. I wanted to do landscape because I was good at it and and loved taking pictures so I thought to my self that I should challenge my self and did lots of Photoshop. What I like about Landscape is that you could I also enjoyed using Photoshop because it taught and showed me how to edit and make it look more professional it also showed me how we can reflect and improve on it another thing reason I enjoyed using Photoshop because it taught and showed me how to edit and make it look more professional it also showed me how we can reflect and improve on it.
Later on this project the part I have really enjoyed was the most was developing my skills and trying new things every time whenever I go on Photoshop I manipulating my outcomes in Photoshop. I have really enjoyed going into the new Photoshop and doing layer and exploring the different tools that are there for me to explore and do different things on it. The one thing I have really like on Photoshop was when I bended the image and made it look like there was two building I learnt this by doing different things. I had one picture and cropped it copy and paste to my layers then I bended the image and put the other picture on top of it.
I experienced so many techniques through out the course for example cutting my images cropping them making them smaller bending the picture putting colours on making the picture and made it look like a football. And I cant wait to experience the new techniques.I realized that if I want to get a grade 5 I am going to work hard and manipulate my pictures and work after school with my teacher and take some pictures.
On my next project the technique I would like to develop further is how to improve my pictures and finding out the new technique there is on Photoshop.in order to do this I think I will need to plan in greater detail so that I spend time and do some research.
The Photographer I have researched about was a guy called lent Grant.
The photographer that I chose inspired me because he was putting on colours so I thought to my self that I should try this and work hard on it.
